Learning to Ride in Mortal Online

Posted in Mortal Online Guides and Game Play Info on February 25th, 2010 by admin

This is just a sneak peek of Killer Guides Mortal Online Guide, a high-end, in-depth and well structured unofficial Mortal Online guide.

Walking everywhere can get a bit old after a while, even for the most intrepid adventurer. Luckily, you don’t have to make your way across the world on foot forever. By using the Creature Control skill you can tame one of the wild horses found in some areas. If taming pets has never been your thing, don’t worry! You aren’t stuck on your feet. Anyone who has successfully tamed a horse can transfer ownership to you, though they may set a high price.

Once you have a mount in your possession, you care for it much like you would any other pet. You must feed it to keep up its loyalty. Turning your loyal pet into a useful steed is rather simple on the surface. Stand next to your mount and type “Use” to mount your new ride. As with any new skill, riding takes practice to master. As you ride you gain Riding skill. This is important because it determines how well you can handle your horse. Just as you would in real life, begin by riding slowly and work your way up to galloping and jumping as you gain more skill. The higher your skill, the less likely you are to fall right out of the saddle when you go too fast, run into something, or attempt to make a jump.

Riding isn’t a quickly mastered skill, but using a mount is well worth the time it takes to learn to ride well. Not only will you be able to cross distances much more quickly, but you can eventually learn to fight from horseback as well. Though it may be frustrating to master at times, just like the old adage says, when you fall off the horse you have to get right back on!

If you choose to be one of Khurites, maybe you need to practice a lot with your horse!

Mortal Online Guide: Strength – Intelligence – Dexterity

Posted in Mortal Online Guides and Game Play Info on February 10th, 2010 by admin

This is just a sneak peek of Killer Guides Mortal Online Guide, a high-end, in-depth and well structured unofficial Mortal Online guide.

Each Attribute has its own effect on your character:

  • Strength: This Attribute determines such basic things as which types of armor you can wear and how much you can carry. It also affects certain combat skills which require brute force to pull off. Strength is most useful to melee type characters who prefer to do their damage up close and personal.
  • Intelligence:Your mind can be a powerful weapon, allowing you to master systems of magic with ease. A higher Intelligence allows you access to certain Skills not available to those with lesser minds. Intelligence is most useful to magic users for whom arcane knowledge is the ultimate defense, and their weapon of choice.
  • Dexterity: Brute strength and a quick mind only get you so far. Dexterity allows you the nimbleness you need to sneak past enemies, to use certain weapons, and even to more easily scale some terrain. A higher Dexterity makes it possible to learn Skills based on movement, such as Acrobatics, which makes it much easier to get in and out before your enemies even know you are there.

It’s important to note though that allocating your Attribute Points is not all or nothing. While making a completely balanced character is not a good idea because you end up with someone who is mediocre at many things and excels at nothing, putting all of your points into one Attribute is not a good strategy either.

Place the majority of your points into your main Attribute but be sure to leave points to spend in complimentary Attributes as well. For instance, Strength and Dexterity together give you a much different character than either can alone. Remember that how you allocate your Primary Attribute Points determines the path your character takes. To see how Skills are affected by Primary Attribute choices, let’s take a close look at the Skill system.

Mortal Online Guide to Attributes

Here’s a basic Mortal Online Attributes guide. For a more comprehensive reference, check out these highly recommended Mortal Online Guides.

One of the most unique aspects of Mortal Online is the symbiotic Attribute and Skill system. Together they form a dynamic way to look at character development that is much different than seen in other games.  Each character is first defined by its Attributes which unlock which Skills become available to you later.

Primary Attributes are the foundation of your character and are set up at character creation. Each character has a total of twenty points which can be distributed among your Primary Attributes in any way you see fit.  This allocation is perhaps the most important part of setting up your character and cannot be changed once done, so it is important to put your points into the Attributes most suited to your desired style of play.

Before spending your Attribute Points it is a good idea to think about what direction you want your character to go. Do you want to be a burly brute who deals sheer damage? If so, put points into Strength to boost your damage with large weapons. If mastering the arcane arts is your desire, then placing points in Intelligence serve you well.
